The Clandestine Porteur is For Sale!

Clandestine.cc Porteur
Pi at Clandestine.cc is a multi award winning frame builder based right here in Bristol, UK, and I’m stoked to name him as one of my closest friends.  I’ve written about my other Clandestine machine here but this is something special: Clandestine #0001, the bike that started it all; The Boneshaker Porteur is for sale!

Pi says:

“Boneshaker Magazine wanted a bike that could cope with the strain of delivering stacks of the magazine to stockists around the hills of Bristol town.

Modelled on the old porteurs of Paris, I built the bike with a huge front rack. In the 40’s and 50’s, Parisienne porteur riders delivered newspapers around the city, and raced annually, from the newspaper quarter to Montmartre with their front racks filled with the news, their heads with the glory.

A mix of Reynolds 853 and 631 tubing, I beefed up the front end, tucked the chain stays in to make the bike stiff at the front but still nippy and fun. 650b and a low trail steering geometry keeps the front loads in check. Dynamo lighting is integrated into the front rack and custom fitted under the saddle, stainless French Giles Berthoud mudguards and a custom stem keep the look clean and classic.”

Since it’s first inception and after the Porteur came to be my own about town pizza carrying machine a few changes have been made along the way whilst making sure to be in keeping with Pi’s original desire that as much reduce / recycle / reuse takes place on the bike.  Additional specs are as such:

  • A custom pair of RyanBuildsWheels hoops (natch!), with SON 28 dynamo up front and a fully serviced (fresh bearings etc) Hope Pro2 Evo out back.  Laced with a custom blend of butted Sapim spokes to suit with silver brass nipples onto Pacenti Brevet rims and setup tubeless on Teravail Tyres.
  • 1 x 8 Drivetrain running on a re-conditioned and polished 165mm pair of Middleburn trial cranks.  32t chainring, 11-32t cassette.  New Chain and Cassette (never ridden)
  • Handlebar mounted index’d thumbie mounted via Paul Comp hardware.
  • Exceptionally comfortable Ergon Cork grips to match the sweep of the handlebars.
  • Shimano Deore Series hydraulic brakes (fresh pads)
  • Kickstand
  • Lovely polished brass bell integrated into custom stem.
  • Custom hardwood stem cap!
  • Custom fitted front bag (converts into rucksack for off the bike use) crafted by Purple Patch Bagworks (now Ashdown Bags).

The Porteur fits both Pi and I like a glove and is a pleasure to ride; we are 5’4″ -> 5’6″.  Exact frame measurements to follow / upon request.

This is a one time opportunity to pick up both a one of a kind bike by one of the UK’s most respected builders AND a little bit of recent framebuilding history.
